2 hour live zoom sessions every week 7.00pm - 9.00pm
The number of participants will be limited so there will be plenty of individual attention.
This is for people who have their own tools at home.
Each week you be shown a new project or technique
The course is designed for people with some experience in jewellery making and should enable you to make silver jewellery at home using basic jewellery making tools.
You will also have time to work on your own projects and will be supported to progress with them.
The sessions will be a mix of whole class demonstrations and discussions with pre-recorded videos and live demonstrations. You will be working together during the session in the whole group but there will also be small group work where you will have the opportunity to chat and be sociable with the others in the class. The classes are backed up with some instruction sheets and some ideas/inspiration source material. You will also have access to any pre-recorded videos after the classes.
A small materials pack will be available to buy from this website.
Projects for this block of 5 sessions
You will have plenty of opportunity to be creative with the projects so you can make your own designs sparked by the input from the tutor.
Some of the techniques that will be covered will be:
Depletion Guilding - Preparing sterling silver for Keum Boo and Reticulation
Reticulation- making surface textures by heat (basic technique and tips for extra texture).
Fusing gold foil onto silver - Keum Boo
Projects - Make a hollow form pendant to your own design (incorporating the textured silver and or gold if you like).
The first four weeks will be related with the fifth a stand alone stone setting exercise - this will be an open backed setting for a large pear oval or marquise large cabochon.
You will need to buy your own silver wire, sheet, bezel strip and solder - a full list will be sent at least 3 weeks before the start of the course.
Essential tools/ materials specific to this course:
Gold Foil - Please note this is different to gold leaf (this will be available to purchase from this website).
Gauze and tripod or steel mesh rack - you will be sent links to these
Pear shaped, oval or marquise cabochon minimum size 14 x 10mm, could also be oval or marquise in shape. Optional to use facetted stone - please check before buying that it is suitable. Optional to purchase in materials pack.
Essential tools - you will need a safe place to set up the following tools up at at home:
Pliers - round nosed, snipe nosed
Safe heat station
Pickle + brass or plastic tweezers
Tweezers - reverse action
Flux - borax cone + dish + brush
Flat stake (or other suitable surface to hammer on)
Drill + 1mm bits
Snips or saw/sawblades/benchpeg
Safety goggles recommended
Useful additional tools
Doming block plus punches (or polymorph, or wad of fabric plus something with ball end)
Decorative metal stamps/punches
